David Lee Proctor, age 76, of Concord, passed away Monday, July 29, 2019, with his wife by his side. He was born in Cabarrus County to the late Everett and Virginia Little Proctor.

Following graduation from Concord High School, David began a life of service. He served his country at Fort Gordon, Fort Riley and at the DMZ in Korea. He joined the Concord Fire Department in 1967 where he served 36 years rising through the ranks to become Chief of Fire Administration for the City of Concord’s Fire and Life Safety Department. David held an Associate in Applied Science Degree in Fire Protection Technology. He was a very active member of the National Fire Academy Alumni Association. He served on the Advisory Committee at UNC Charlotte that established the course of study for a degree in Fire Safety. As a loving father he served as Scoutmaster for both the Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts of America. Even after his son Jonathan achieved Eagle Scout, David continued to support scouting receiving the prestigious Silver Beaver Award. He was a founding board member of the Cabarrus-Rowan Community Health Centers and continued to serve until his death. He was also active in numerous other community organizations.

David was also preceded in death by his beloved son, Jonathan Lee Proctor.

He is survived by his wife and love of his life, Ellen Parker Proctor; his sister, Sue Ellen Proctor Brookshire (Nelson); brothers and sisters-in-law, Mack Parker, Becky Lowery, Buck Parker (Ann), Jonnie Petrea (Chunk), Ann Chapman (Boyce), Jim Parker (Jewell); numerous nieces and nephews; “Wednesday Night Supper Buddies” and his “Saturday Morning Firefighter Breakfast Group”.

Visitation will be at Epworth United Methodist Church, 1030 Burrage Road NE, on Monday, August 5, from 1:30-2:45 pm followed by the memorial service beginning at 3:00 pm. Graveside rites with full military honors will follow immediately at Carolina Memorial Park, Kannapolis, NC.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Jonathan Lee Proctor Scholarship Fund at UNC-Charlotte: Advancement Office, 9201 University City Blvd., Charlotte, NC 28223.

I have so many wonderful memories of spending time in the Proctor home on Crowell Avenue during the 1950’s enjoying the warmth of a very loving family and my heart goes out to David’s loved ones during this transitional period.
