Gold Hill

Wayne Charles Lenig, 71, of Gold Hill, NC died surrounded by his loving family on September 19, 2020 after a brief, but courageous, battle with cancer.

Wayne was born October 26, 1948 in Lewisburg, PA to Charles O. Lenig Jr. and Rowena M. Lenig. A veteran of the United States Army, Wayne served his country in the Vietnam War from 1968-1970. He served in the 4th Infantry, Mechanized Armor unit stationed in Pleiku, Vietnam. After returning back to the states he moved to Farmington Hills, MI where he later met the love of his life, Nancy. They started a family and he pursued his passion working on and building specialty cars and muscle cars. A career in NASCAR later drew Wayne to NC where he lived out the rest of his life.

Wayne was preceded in death by his father, Charles O. Lenig Jr.

He leaves behind his wife, Nancy, whom he would have celebrated 47 years of marriage with on Nov 30th; his children, Brent Lenig (Elizabeth) and Kristin Layton (Brandon); his “adopted” son, Wade Jackson (Kim); his grandaughters , Samantha Lenig and Abby Lenig; his mother, Rowena Lenig and brothers, Larry Lenig (Dianne) and Steve Lenig.

Wayne will be remembered with full military funeral honors at Salisbury National Cemetery on October 14, 2020 at 1:00 pm.
